I discovered Daniel Johnston through documentary about his music, life, and schizophrenia, “The Devil and Daniel Johnston”. Johnston has been drawing for as long has he’s been making music, and it was Kurt Cobain who first brought Johnston major attention by wearing one of his t-shirts at the 1992 MTV Music Awards. This year, Johnston accomplished a dream by releasing his first ever comic book, Space Ducks. Following the new comic, we also get its soundtrack, which is Johnston’s first album in 3 years, and 18th overall studio LP. As they document in the film, Johnston used to record straight to cassette. He also, didn’t dub copies of his music, instead he would sing each one live.
