Asher Roth

I interviewed Asher Roth in October of 2010, after the release of his video for “G.R.I.N.D.”.  The interview covered the new music, and particularly how it reflected his personal growth since the release of his debut, Asleep In The Bread Aisle.  We also touched on his forthcoming album, The Spaghetti Tree, which at the time he said was going to serve as his sophomore album and focus on imagination, and story telling.  The title itself comes from a spoof in which the BBC convinced their audience that spaghetti grew on trees.  Since that time, we’ve seen Asher give out a few tracks, release a free EP with Nottz, as well as pop up on other people’s records, most notably new music from The Cool Kids.  But, we haven’t gotten that new album, and there hasn’t been too much talk on The Spaghetti Tree since the interview.  Over the weekend Asher appeared on 102.9 and talked about his sophomore album, and revealed a few changes in the plans.  It turns out that The Spaghetti Tree is something that he recorded with Pharrell in about 10 days, over the which the two banged out 12 records. “It does exist, and it will come out,” Asher said before specifically saying to Skateboard P, “let’s do that man, the people need to hear that.”

The hold up on the Spaghetti Tree is due to financial issues, and the costs involved with the project.  While they work out the numbers, Asher says he does have a new album ready to go and it could possibly be dropping this fall with production from Oren Yoel, Nottz, and Organized Noize.  The radio station also premiered a new song from the new album, “Another One Down” featuring D.A. Wallach of Chester French.  The song focus on the working man, and the breaks he can enjoy as another week is down, and the weekend is upon us.  Grab it after the jump.
