Mikkey Halsted had a great 2012, and we decided to welcome him onto Closed Sessions Radio to kick off 2013. Halsted joined me and JR Bang earlier today, for what was one of our best interviews to date. Mikkey gave us his take on 2012, and the benefits he’s gained by releasing Castro and Money Making Mikkey Season. Much like Bang and I, Mikkey also feels Castro is his best project to date, and said that he is currently working on its follow-up, tentatively titled Bullet Proof Dreams. The new mixtape is being produced by No ID, Traxster, Don Cannon, Young Chop, and DJ L, amongst others, and is 90% done.
Mikkey also talked about his new work with young Chicago artists such as Lil’ Herb, and what he sees as priorities in order for Chicago to hold onto the buzz created last year with the rise of the drill scene. Halsted keeps it all the way funky, speaking on hype vs. substance, digital gatekeepers, and much more.
If you missed the interview this morning, check it out below. Listen to Closed Sessions Radio every Friday from 11am-1pm on WindyCityUnderground.com.
