Nico Segal: Illasoul

Yesterday Kids These Days‘ Nico Segal dropped a new beat-tape through Twitter.  The project, The Band In My Garage, is composed of 11 instrumentals produced entirely on the famous music software GarageBand. Although the product lacks proper mastering, this is an interesting set of records by the multi-talented musician. Here we see Nico experiment with new sounds and concepts, while adding techniques he has used in the past. This gives the listener an inside look into the progress and influences attained by Nico during this past few months, which have been filled with moments such as the release of KTD’s TrapHouse Rock and their great performance at The Vic this past weekend.

Standout records include the smooth “Winter In America”, the aggresive “118” and “I Wanna Know”, which features a neo-funk style with a hauntingly beautiful synth. Nico says that if any artist out there has some dope material to record over it, he’s more than happy to do the beats over again with live-instrumentation, so I advise to any up-and-comer to start doing some writing right now!

If you want some Nico Segal music with words, peep his debut solo effort Illasoul: Shades of Blue.
