Boaz is the latest in Rostrum Records’ string of artists to take aim at the big time. The Pittsburgh emcee hopes to follow the success of labelmates and fellow ‘burghians Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa when he releases his new mixtape, The Transition on Tuesday May 10th. While he shares a record home and team with Wiz and Miller, he’s not exactly cut from the same cloth, as Boaz brings a grittier and rougher street sound to Rostrum Records. That sound and mindset is clearly distinguished on the project’s latest leak “On Behalf”, which features Top Dawg’s Jay Rock. The record plays out something like a rags to riches story, as Boaz and Jay Rock trade verses of repping their respective streets, while also speaking on the ills they both hope to escape. It is a solid track for fans of gangster-yet-honest Hip Hop. Download it below.
