Straight outta Moline, comes a young rapper named Caliko. And he’s bringing tracks with Wiz Khalifa, YP, Trade and others on his debut, The Departure. The LP is available now on iTunes, and a highlight of the project is this record, “Whip It Around” featuring none other than the leader of the Taylor Gang. While Devo told us to “whip it good”, and Willow Smith described whipping her hair, Caliko and Wiz talk about what they know best over syrupy production from Big Head Beats who utilize a Jay-Z quote circa American Gangster to construct the song’s chorus. The track is picking up steam in Chicago thanks the Smash Brothers and Bacardiru, who introduced me to Caliko at last week’s Mac Miller show.
