Chief Keef

In the midst of the end of Chicago’s deadly summer, a day after Chicago Public Schools began and an 18 year old rapper was killed, Chief Keef took to Twitter about 15 minutes ago saying Lupe Fiasco was “a hoe ass n***a And wen I see him I’ma smack him like da lil bitch he is #300.” Lupe responded referring presumably to the life Keef & many Chicago youth lead, stating he’s “seen this in as many ways as there can be, and it just takes and takes from you “(Tweet has since been deleted).

The reason I chose to post about this event, is specifically due to the amount of national attention Chicago has gotten in the past six months. From a high murder rate and thoughtless violence, to rising teenage rap stars, Chicago has been the focus of media outlets across the nation for months now. In this time Lupe Fiasco has stepped up and released music explaining the outcomes and affects of the antics that are becoming staples of our great city, stating countless times his worry for his hometown of Chicago.  While this is another instance of Keef speaking out against an elder statesmen in the game, and fellow Chicago native,  this conversation between Lupe & Keef is one that definitely needs to occur, and should have way back then. But a real conversation needs to happen. One that gets to why this is even happening.

Hopefully this interaction will not just pass by (as it did with Kanye), but a real discussion can be held and solutions can come to fruition. As we all know violence has plagued our city long before Keef was even born, but this age of mass (digital) media we live in, the impact is deeper than many may think.
