Technically, it can be argued that actor Chris Hemsworth already is a lethal weapon, considering his status as a God in the Marvel Universe. But hey, isn’t it a lot cooler when our action heroes are more human and grounded to reality? Rumors came out last week about Warner Bros. interest in rebooting the Lethal Weapon franchise, but considering Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are shells of their former selves, any reboot would relegate them to the background. Current rumors involve Thor himself being targeted for a lead role in the film.

Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin is attached to the film with Will Beall (Gangster Squad) writing the script, although original Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black has been offering guidance on the script, as well. The plot concerns a retired cop’s son wishing to join the police force. Considering this, there is room for Gibson and Glover to play minor roles in the reboot. The biggest concern, if Hemsworth were to join the production, is finding a suitable buddy to pair him with.

Would a modern day Lethal Weapon work in light of all of the amazing action films that have followed since? I guess we’ll find out in a couple of years.
