As you may know, Lord Finesse is currently suing Mac Miller for Mac’s use of Lord Finesse record on the 2010 release, “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza”. Even though the song was released for free via a free mixtape, Finesse claims that Mac benefited tremendously from the song, which is one of his bigger hits.  At that time, many speculated how the lawsuit would impact the tradition of mixtapes, and general practice to look the other way when music is sampled on free releases.  Well, today Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa announced that they are holding off on the release of their new mixtape, Live In Concert, specifically because of the sample issue.  Both emcees took to twitter saying that the mixtape will still be released, but first they must clear the records.

From Curren$y on Twitter:
“We wldnt feel comfortable droppin #LiveInConcert until we get the samples cleared.with how these suits keep poppin up.. Mixtapes ain’t safe. Lots of law suits being handed out to folks for makin free mixtape jams..Wiz,Mac,myself even..We gotta play this one smart..We got it tho. So don’t trip it’ll be out soons the legal beagles handle it…. Crazy how the game gets huh? I never imagined a time like this….came up off mixtapes in 08 not financially but they put me on so2speak..Sucks that this may be a lane made unavailable to the next mcs..But when one door closes, another one opens….We will do the due diligence and have it cleared in its entirety …When u hear it you’ll see what we built…. And it will last forever.”

Wiz Khalifa on Twitter:
“Just As Spitta Said We Gotta Make Surr All The Samples Are Cleared Before We Drop The Tape To Respect The Artists And Publishers We Sampled. Kush Castles Will Still Be Appearing From The Sky. Just Not Today :-(”
