Daniel Johnston

A few years back I saw the documentary film The Devil And Daniel Johnston about the singer/songwriter known for his music and dementia.  Daniel Johnston is an exceptionally talented as well as troubled musician who’s early recordings were all done on cassette, with each copy being its own recording.  He did not dub the tapes, he really re-did them.  Johnston’s early music has been re-released previously, and he is now readying a new piece of work, Is and Always Was.  If you’re unfamiliar with Johnston, take a sample below with “Freedom” off the forthcoming disc, and if you like documentaries, I highly recommend netflixing his bio flick.
