Fat Beats NYC, a record store that was both iconic and culturally significant, closed its doors this weekend. To celebrate the legacy of Fat Beats, DJ Eclipse and co. hosted several parties and events. One highlight is this routine from DJ A-Trak. Watching this first thing in the morning definitely helped get my day started, and reminded me how really talented A-Trak is behind the turntables. RIP to Fat Beats NYC and LA (scheduled to close in mid September), I had the opportunity to shop at both spots, with the NYC store a regular part of all my trips to New York City. Fat Beats will continue as a digital outlet and also continue distributing product. The effects of the closure of Fat Beats and other record stores is only beginning to take shape. Prepare for a Joni Mitchell moment at some point.
