DJ Shadow

You know it is a special day when we receive a new DJ Shadow track. The Entroducing… veteran producer is busy on the road, and working on his new album, which is not due until 2011.  When speaking on “Def Surrounds Us” to BBC Radio 1’s DJ Zane Low, Shadow spoke on the samples he used for the track, “It had all these weird textures in it and weird vocal treatments and there was something really atmospheric about it and I just gravitated towards it. I kinda built a beat around it inspired by some dub-step, a bit of electro, a bit of drum ‘n’ bass, but at the same time I wanted to make something completely different from all three.”

One of the originators of such fusion between electronic and Hip Hop music, Shadow provides a clear example of how these genres have collided for the better in recent times. This track reminds me a lot of the recent experimental Hip-Hop/glitch group PANTyRAiD’s release ‘The Sauce’, which is a must hear for hip-hop/ dub/ glitch fans.
