Here’s some new Drake that hit my inbox over the weekend. Drake stays true to the subject in this reflective joint that is serving to communicate a growing theme in Drake’s music. Kind of similar to the way that early Kanye West music focused on an underdog theme, Drake continues to talk about his rise in the music business, and the feelings that go along with such a fast rise. Nonetheless, Drake’s confidence shows through, yet also seems to be mixed with a little apprehension about who is now in his corner, as well as giving way to the temptations of fame, money, and power. One of Drake’s strengths up to this point has been his ability to stay grounded despite huge successes, we’ll see if he can continue that in the months leading up to his proper debut.
