Action Bronson and Bambu watch Evidence

While I was at Soundset over the weekend, I was able to catch up with both Action Bronson and Evidence.  While I was in Bronson’s trailer, Evidence walked in and the two talked about a new record they have together that is produced by The Alchemist and will be on the Action Bronson x Alchemist album that will be released later this year, and hopefully for free. I was able to catch up with both Action and Evidence about the new song, which represents a pairing of two of my favorite emcees.

The song was recorded out in L.A., where Bronson just return after a 10 day trip.  He said that he recorded 15 new songs with Alchemist, giving them more than two albums worth of material that they will cut down for the forthcoming release. His record with Evidence will definitely be on the LP, and is in contention for single status, a music video, the whole nine.  “The song with Evidence, honestly you know, Evidence is one of those type of dudes where he can spit those bars, but he also makes songs that are songs,” Bronson said about their collaboration.  “He kind of inspired me to do that, to do an actual song, something that meant something. And it just came together.”

Evidence also spoke to me about the record, and said it reminds him of one of Dilated Peoples’ most memorable tracks.  “I think it’s just one of those naturally good records. I don’t think it’s a ‘hit,’ but I think it’s the way “Worst Comes To Worst” wasn’t ‘the hit.’ It was like, ‘this is what you should put out. Don’t be stupid.’  And because of that it was our biggest record, bigger than the one we did with Kanye,” he said.   “Just sometimes when shit feels right, just go with it.  It might not be screaming single, but there’s just an intangible vibe when you play it, and that might be your single.  Hopefully, if it’s not his single, we at least make a video and see that through because it’s just got one of those really good vibes. It’s just hard not to like the shit.”

Evidence also spoke to me about working with Action Bronson, and being impressed with how good he is after such a short time on the mic.  “He’s been rapping for two or three years. That’s crazy to me, cause the way he rhymes, delivery-wise, you could say the Ghost thing all that, ok fine.  But my point is, there’s still a thing called ‘pocket.’  There’s still a thing called ‘personality.’ There’s still a thing called ‘eye of the tiger,’ and this dude’s got a lot of that shit.”

Check back this week for full interviews with both Action Bronson and Evidence.
