QuEST

I’m feeling really good right now… It’s a little after midnight, and I can go to bed before 2 for the first time this week!  I work pretty much all the time every week, but this week was an especially grinding one. We’re tying up the many Closed Sessions loose ends before our EP drops in March, and working on some great things for RubyHornet.  All that, plus a couple DJing gigs, and I’m exhausted right now.  Anyway, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to really finish QuEST’s mixtape today as I had scheduled and planned… But as it comes up on 12:15, I can say that How Thoughtful is in the books.  I gotta add some drops, and some minor tweaks, but it’s pretty much a wrap and something I’m happy with.

This is my second mixtape with QuEST, I also mixed Only One Month Left, which came out during the summer.  QuEST has a very specific approach to music, one which I’m understanding more and more as we continue to work together.  For How Thoughtful, I kept the mix moving, and the blends fluid. The mix actually took me a minute to figure out, and on this mixtape I really read the music well and didn’t try to do too much.  Where an inclination maybe to “show off” and do a lot, QuEST’s music does as much flow with that… And I think my understanding of that fact has help me create a new piece of work that the Miami emcee will proudly add to his catalog as I add it to mine, and that fans of QuEST will enjoy.

Anyway, it’s late and I’m going to bed…
