“Everyday we gotta pray for the lord to walk with us.”
I had the chance to work with Freddie Gibbs for the first time last week during his Closed Session with us in Tejas (yes I said Tejas). The kid is the truth. I heard the hype and heard the records. I saw the videos and the persona, and while I caught Gibbs’ talent from all the online material, it was meeting him that really allowed me to see what makes him a special talent right about now. “The Ghetto” is a song that I heard a lot of buzz about, but hadn’t heard before today. It’s got a jazzy vibe, and Gibbs cues the pianos for a reflection on life in the ghetto. The song has a very old school aesthetic while still looking towards the future. As TSS mentioned in their write-up, this is the radio edit and I echo their sentiments about radio and DJ’s supporting the song. I’m pretty sure there will be a video for this at some point.

Props to TSS.
