GLC

GLC is in the midst of heavy promotion for his debut album Love, Life, and Loyalty.  The LP will drop on Oct 12th via GLC’s own Get It Man with EMI distribution.  It’s a must for GLC, who needs to spread his music as well as his brand as much as possible.    “I think it’s a great first album.  I think it’s really good.  But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how good I think it is if the people aren’t able to hear it or even know that it’s out.  I’m very fortunate that I’m able to go from city to city to promote it.”

That is exactly what he’s doing and he gave me shout on the road to Indianapolis after stops in Cleveland, Charlotte, and New York City before heading to London, Germany, and France this weekend.

“I’ve actually lived this life before,” he said about live on the road before a major release.  “I did it second person.  Now I’m going first person style. It’s really dope.  I’m excited, and I’m blessed that I got an album coming out and where ever I go there are people saying, ‘Ah yes! Finally.”

GLC also told me that his goal is to have a video done for each song on the LP.  He is off to a good start.  Beyond the video for current single “Clockin’ Lots of Dollars”, GL has videos already done for “Blinded By The Light”, “I Ain’t Even On Yet”, and “Money, Hoes, Cars, Clothes”.  While in Chicago earlier this week, he also filmed visuals for the Bump J. assisted “Big Knot” as well as “Pull Me Back”, which was produced by The Legendary Traxster.

“I always got a kick out of videos since I was a kid,” he told me.  “I’m highly blessed that I’m in a position where I can do the s**t myself as opposed to sitting back and watching TV saying, ‘oh, that was really cold.  I wish I could do that one day.’  I’m actually living my childhood dream right now.”

GLC also addressed his situation with G.O.O.D. Music, which has been a hot topic since XXL’s recent issue guest-edited by Kanye West and featuring a detailed cover story on the G.O.O.D. Music roster.  GLC’s absence from the article fueled speculation that he was no longer a part of G.O.O.D. Music.  GL confirmed speculation saying,

“That is true.  Actually I haven’t been on the label since 2006.  What’s so crazy about it is that everybody who interviews me now asks me that question.  That’s really what the media wants to know, am I a part of G.O.O.D. Music?…  At the end of the day, Kanye’s my friend.  That’s my family, but I haven’t been signed to G.O.O.D. Music since 2006.  And now I’m in a great position.  I watched Kanye drop his album.  After he dropped his album he was album to start his situation, his G.O.O.D. Music situation.  I just soaked up the game.  Being around him, learning and watching the way he did things, I was able to apply what I learned and start my own company: Get It Man Entertainment.  With that being said, G.O.O.D. Music was cool.  When I was on G.O.O.D. Music there really wasn’t any structure.  Now that they’re working things out, I’ve already done a deal with EMI.  I believe Kanye is in pursuit of doing an exclusive deal with another label.  I’m not sure which one he’s going to go with, but it’s one of the big boys.  We are definitely outside the loop.”
