Today is the birthday of our homie, and incredibly talented DJ/producer, Million $ Mano. He is celebrating in style with a party tonight that should be one for the books. In correlation with the day’s events, we chopped it up real quick with the man the myth and legend. He gives us some words of wisdom on how to enjoy the party, birthday traditions, and what he’s working on. Check it out below.
RubyHornet: Today is your bday. What’s the first thing you did? Any birthday traditions?
Million $ Mano: No traditions. I got up from a crazy hangover… Last night I popped some bottles of Rose at The Shrine compliments of my bro Timbuck2, and my dude BacardiRu.
RubyHornet: You are the connoisseur of connoisseurs… How the hell does one pick out a gift for you?
Million $ Mano: I will admit I am picky. I don’t like sentimental or creative “it’s the thought that counts” gifts. So yea, I usually get good gifts so I guess I just want the same thought. I just don’t give expensive gifts, they’re well thought out.
RubyHornet: Last year you celebrated at Empire, which is not large, but a good size. This year you’re at Jbar, which is slightly bigger than my studio apartment. Why Jbar and next year will you be celebrating in a smaller venue such as an SUV or perhaps party bus? Haha….
Million $ Mano: bwahahahahahaha!! There goes that writer sarcasm. I wanted to do it at a bigger venue like Lasalle Power but me and the @superfun collective (shannon, marc, chelsea & virgil) thought it would be ok to do it at Jbar. I mean, it’s already our weekly so yea, it made sense.
RubyHornet: Given that the party is tonight at Superfun, give us your top 5 tips on what we should do to best enjoy the occasion.
Million $ Mano:
1. Be as fresh as you can be.
2. Don’t come to just expect top 40 hits.
3. Make love not war – andre 3000.
4. Buy as much liquor as possible.
5. Be fashionably EARLY.
RubyHornet: Lastly, give the people a quick update on what you have going on with the He Say She Say project and your upcoming disco solo record.
Million $ Mano: Yup, me and drea are working on a new record. In my opinion, it is pretty much incredible. And I’m doing a disco ep collab with ROCKSMITH tokyo.
