High Fashion

Within the past few years, fashion shows have evolved from being a simple presentation of clothing and accessories worn by models walking down a runway to full-on productions.  Lately, designers are arranging everything from exotic venues to props to enhance their presentations.  Some designers are going as far as not even having a ‘live’ fashion show but by making videos or broadcasting footage. Viktor & Rolf broadcasted their Spring 2009 show online only.  The video had one model, Shalom Harlow, showcasing every look from the collection. Couture houses and ready-to-wear labels alike are changing with the times.  Maybe the advancement in technology is the reason for this.  The option is finally there to create a statement not only with the garments, but a whole new world has opened up.  With shows like this, past and current, I can’t wait to see what designers come up with next.  Let’s start the show…

Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2007

The collection was very much Asian-inspired with the origami embellishments and embroidery.  The show was amazing, truly a moment in fashion history.

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2008

McQueen’s quirky elegance is always showing whether that be in pieces or in shows.  This show whose garments were inspired by English Queens throughout history is breathtaking!

Viktor & Rolf Spring 2009

Viktor & Rolf have always been known for off-the-wall garments and pieces, but this show was the first of its kind.  The show was a video broadcasted online and modeled solely by the design duo’s muse, Shalom Harlow.

Gareth Pugh Fall/Winter 2009

This one is my personal favorite.  The video created for this show in collaboration with London-based filmmaker Ruth Hogben is a fashion must-see and has some of the best visuals imaginable.
