Something New

We’ve been doing this little thing called RubyHornet for a while now, since February of 2008.  In that time, we’ve had some great memories, and (we think) built a wealth of dope content.  “How About Some Old S**t” is our way of shedding some light on some of our favorites pieces from the past, some that may still be new to you.  The title of the post comes from an old Beastie Boys live performance bootleg that I got a few years ago in which MCA says, “how about some old s**t”, before they go into their classics.  So, that’s the vibe. That’s the deal.

It’s been a while since our last Old S*#t piece, and it’s time for a re-up.  In light of our large Freddie Gibbs feature, as well as YP’s video shoot with Jim Jones and new visuals for “The Come Up”, it only makes sense that we feature “Something New” right now.  For those unfamiliar, “Something New” was created as part of our Closed Sessions series.  The production comes from Million $ Mano, with verses from Freddie Gibbs and YP.  This was Gibbs before releasing Str8 Killa, and it was YP before he had even released No Sleep.  Mano was years away from becoming the tour DJ for Watch The Throne, and we were just a few months removed from recording Closed Sessions: ATX.

It’s crazy how far everyone has come.  After listening to this song and watching how it was made, I’m not surprised at all.  Enjoy the Closed Session documentary, as well as the official music video… New Closed Sessions LP feat Action Bronson, CyHi The Prynce, Raekwon, Blu, Vonnegutt, Ninjasonik, Hollywood Holt, LEP and more coming this spring.
