Paul Wall

After a few months of being lazy, I finally started getting back in the gym on a consistent basis.  Armed with built up energy and a my iPod, I’ve been spending a lot of hours running, and working out.  Throughout these sessions I keep my iPod on shuffle, listening to some songs that I hadn’t heard in years. I decided to re-up some these tracks for one simple reason: They are great songs and I feel they deserve another look.  These tracks that I love, both for their sound, their themes, and even the memories they bring up. To kick it off I am going to post “Live It” by Paul, which features Yelawolf, Jay Electronica, and Raekwon.

“Live It” appears on Paul Wall’s 2010 release, Heart of A Champion.  The song is produced by Travis Barker and is a given an upbeat and relaxed vibe through his keys and horns.  It is the perfect canvas for Wall, Jay Electronica, and Raekwon to paint the pictures of workaholics feeling the weight of the world.  Their verses filled with their own troubles as well as the societies ills. Yelawolf’s hook, which definitely celebratory in nature, almost serves a pep talk and a case of Wall, Electronica, and Raekwon convincing themselves that it is ok to enjoy the fruits of their labor.  With all the trouble in the world, it can be a hard task for some to simply slow down and be happy.  It’s something I definitely identify with.

Favorite Lines…
Paul Wall:  “Life is too short, wouldn’t you agree, see, the best time I had in my life was free.”
Raekwon:  “When everything is wrong and looks like it’ll fall, I’m on the job, feet first, with direction and all.”
Jay Electronica:  “Sam Cooke said that change was coming, if not, you can bet yo’ ass that danger’s coming.”

Here’s a very old interview with Paul Wall back in 2008 at Jugrnaut.  And a very recent interview with Raekwon we did in May at our office.
