“If I died tomorrow, I wanted to put together a work that could define me.”

Earlier this week, Mikkey Halsted released his new mixtape, Castro.  The new project was presented with DJ Don Cannon, and is a heartfelt effort from Mikkey, featuring slim guest appearances, and records driven by raw honesty, amazing lyrical output, and production from No I.D., Don Cannon, and Young Chop.  The album has been getting a great response, giving Mikkey further validation on his skills and renewed faith that his style of Hip Hop music can truly connect to the people.

Castro is that cornerstone,” Mikkey Halsted told me this morning, as my guest on my morning show with JR Bang on WindyCityUnderground.  “My goal in making Castro was to make the album of the year and to give, on a lyrical level, to take you guys where I feel like only few emcees can take you. I really wanted to exercise my talent.”
