Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2009 Couture show left me in complete awe.  The collection included see through fabrics, fishnets, crocheted fabric, and fine lined prints.  It was very tailored complete with classic suiting with strong shoulders and 1980s pinstripes.  It seemed as though the fine lines were being drawn with a calligraphy pen with the nice flow and line of the draping.  Gaultier has always been obsessed with corsetry and that definitely showed.  Lingerie is a huge trend in couture this season (just look at Chanel’s show) and it’ll be interesting to see this trend trickle down to the streets.  The effects of the construction made many allusions to money, which is funny given the current economic state.  The show was full of little jokes, but carried out beautifully.  The models looked like classic twenties babes.  I loved it!  The pieces are definitely investment pieces, but pieces that will be full of style forever…
