The Cool Kids

I’m sure Virgil will did replace this with a better picture in the morning but…. After finishing our Closed Session with Bun B and GLC, we left SoundScape and headed across the street to Reggie’s.  We got there in time to see Bun B perform songs such as “Swang On’em”, “Big Pimpin'”, and even “Clockin’ Lotsa Dollars” with GLC.  Following Bun B’s set was a homecoming show of sorts for The Cool Kids, who have not performed in Chicago in quite a while.  Playing music from throughout their catalog, Chuck and Mikey (backed by DJ VIPJ) had the poise and demeanor of calm veterans, and commanded the crowd since they took the stage.  While Virgil shot photos up front, I chilled in the back.  There were a lot of people taking pics and video, so I decided to chill on the Flip Cam footage, still smiling after what just happened at SoundScape.  But, I heard the Kids start to talk about the cold weather, and I knew what was coming.

Back in October at Dimes and Dozens, Demo of the Smash Bros. brought Chuck to the booth and handed me a CD while I was DJing.  It contained a new Cool Kids’ joint that I believe may have been recorded that day, or shortly before.  That track was “Bundle Up”, a song about Chicago’s coldness.  I had a feeling that they were introducing the track, and when they also said it was on When Fish Ride Bicycles, right before the beat drop, I knew it was the same song.  So, here’s the only video footage I’ll be posting from the show.  Enjoy!
