First-generation Latina artist KAINA has announced her debut LP Next To The Sun out July 12th via Sooper Records (Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Sen Morimoto, Miranda Winters, etc..). KAINA is one of those artists that makes timeless music that transcends genres and borders, blending her Venezuelan and Guatemalan heritage with her native Chicago sound. Produced by KAINA and Sen Morimoto, the album is indebted to Latin music while remaining bound to the soulfulness of Chicago; a theme not only expressed through her music but through her unique come up in the burgeoning Chicago scene. Back in 2016 her collaboration with Burns Twins Sweet Asl. showed off her songwriting and vocal chops and since then she has been picking up steam, working with other Chicago heavyweights like Saba, The O’My’s and Sen Morimoto to name a few. Ahead of Next To The Sun KAINA put out a video for the first single “Green” which acts as a solid introduction to what we can expect on the record. Directed by Jean Deaux, the video shows people of all ages and backgrounds breaking bread with one another – a colorful, blended representation of what family means to the singer.
Today you can hear the next single from the album “Ghost”, a hauntingly deep-pocketed track that continues to explore the singer’s Latin-inspired sonics blended seamlessly with Chicago soul, R&B, and blues.
If you’re in Chicago she’ll be having her release party at Lincoln Hall on July 14th. Tickets for that are on sale here.
