Kanye West Benefit Show

“They got the dropout keeping kids in school, they get to see me, then they get to see me drop gems…”

Kanye West, who celebrated a birthday yesterday, will be giving Chicago Public Schools a present on Thursday when he hits The Chicago Theatre for the Kanye West Foundation S.H.O.W.  The show is aimed to reward students for working hard and staying in school.  Kanye will be joined by special guests throughout the day, as he will perform a special day concert just for CPS students who have met attendance/performance requirements.  Kanye will take the stage again later in the evening for a special concert, which you can purchase tickets for right here. As a former CPS teacher, and member of Teach For America, our nation’s high school dropout rate is no laughing matter and the achivement gap that it accelerates.  One concert definitely won’t end all that, but hopefully the awareness it creates will stir something in someone else, which will lead to change.  The press release for the show is below, check it out for more info.

Kanye West will be joined by his celebrity friends in Chicago as he continues his mother’s legacy through the Kanye West Foundation with the 2nd Stay in School Benefit Concert. This is the first Foundation event since his mother’s passing and is unprecedented in size and scope as the Foundation partners with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), Fuse TV and S.H.O.W (Students Helping Our World).  Kanye will rock the Chicago Theatre on Thursday, June 11th – twice in one day – in typical grand fashion while underscoring the importance of student retention and graduation in the nation’s high schools.  The day of events commences with a press conference, followed by a free show for kids from 6 area schools who have improved their grades and concluding with a benefit reception and concert.
