Next Thursday RSVP Gallery is throwing a party at the House of Blues with A$AP Rocky.  L.E.P. was supposed to be on the bill as well, but according to their manager, E, they have been banned from performing at the venue by the Chicago Police Department.  As far as to why L.E.P. is not allowed to perform, E told WGCI’s Morning Riot that L.E.P’s ban is “due to the violence that’s going on in Chicago, and the type of music that we make.”

E also said that L.E.P. has already performed 3 times at the House of Blues this year without incident, and said the actions of the city have less to do with L.E.P.’s music and more about what’s going on with Chief Keef.

It’s interesting and kind of fucked up how much of Chicago Hip Hop has just been pigeonholed as gangster rap, and youtube videos with kids brandishing guns.  This incident further illustrates the hype everyone is caught up in right now, and how out-of-towners and those out of touch with Chicago Hip Hop have no idea of the full scene and the music.   The city just sees all this attention and watches the news, they don’t want trouble so they shut it down without really understanding the music or point of the concert.  L.E.P. says they’re gonna go against the city and try to get on the bill. Stay tuned.
