Laws has talked a lot about his appreciation for the music of Paul McCartney and The Beatles, which serves as the motivation for Yesterday’s Future. The forthcoming mixtape, which will be released 5/24, is a “duets” inspired project in which Laws reinterprets the music of McCartney adding his own twist to each track. The mixtape’s first leak is “Dear Boy”, which samples Paul McCartney’s song of the same name. While Laws makes the “Dear Boy” into an obsessive fan, McCartney’s version is centered on his former main squeeze Linda, and his realization that he was lucky to have her. The song also came with some controversy, as John Lennon felt the song may have been a somewhat disguised swipe.
