As October rushes passed, we are gearing up for a very strong 4th quarter in the industry as a whole, especially in Chicago. Waiting until the 4th quarter to drop seems like a trend in Chicago, which puts everyone into over-drive, as everyone wants the most successful/noticeable release. This week we got new material from Common, YP, Lupe Fiasco, LEP Bogus Boys, King Louie, Mic Terror, Rockie Fresh, Add-2, Show You Suck, Thelonious Julian Malone + more.

Common: Common and Cocaine 80s linked up again, this time for the the Lady Ghost EP. Common also announced via twitter The Dreamer, The Believer has been pushed back to mid-December, instead of the original 11/22 date.

 

YP: YP dropped a new track as he tackles J.Cole’s “Too Deep For The Intro” Erykah Badu infused beat from the Friday Night Lights mixtape. Perfect for the eastside MC, as he continues his push for national acclaim. Listen to “Reflect”

Lupe Fiasco: In promotion for his Friend of The People: I Fight Evil mixtape, which drops on Thanksgiving, Lupe gave out the first joint from the mixtape. “Lightwork” see’s Lu go in over Bassnectar’s Ellie Goulding “Lights”.

Rockie Fresh: Rockie and Vic Mensa were called on by newcomer Noelz, for his track “King Me”. Rockie also has a new project Driving 88, that we will hopefully see before the new year.

Mic Terror: Mic dropped off this timely track “Chief Sampson”, just a couple hours ago and I can say this is a must listen. Mic will blow sooner than you think, period.

Add-2: Add dropped visuals for the mighty, “Iron Mic” off his One Last Call mixtape. Save Our Souls LP coming soon. The world will soon understand who is really one of the best lyricists our city has offer.

Thelonious: We got another fix from Thelonious and videographer Nick Torres in “In Afternoon With The Homme Team”, featuring another session with the young beatsmith, that not only involves crisp production, but tasty burgers. It gets serious round 5mins.

Top 5 Most-Anticipated Local Releases in 4th Quarter

In preparation for the grand fourth quarter we are looking at, this week’s Top 5 surrounds some of the new breed MC’s who are looking to cement their names in the game, as well as proven veterans back for another round of schooling. Freddie Gibbs, LEP Bogus Boys, and King Louie have all garnered their buzz in different fashions, but any way you look at it, they all have reached a turning point in their careers at this point in the fall of 2011, where their next moves will be critical in determining future success. With Freddie Gibbs  and LEP both releasing albums on Halloween, they will set the tone for King Louie, while vets Common and Lupe Fiasco are dropping in November and December respectively. While King Louie hasn’t caught the attention of everyone yet, his Dope & Shrimp release will sure get him some deserved pub as he gears up for the rocky road to national acclaim. Lupe & Common both will close out the year in a strong fashion, as Lupe returns in full fledged mixtape form and Common with No I.D. back in a BIG way. Get ready to enjoy the next 2 months fans, you’ll remember these drops for a long time.
