Ah, the Fall. For a college senior the fall is a glorious time of year. It’s the last time you can get away with partying on a Saturday night while proceeding to no nothing on a hungover Sunday beyond watching Da Bears handle business. After a quick Pre-season in which it seemed a game was played every night, the regular season kicks off next week. In Chicago the fall musical season is gearing up as we are hearing a whole bunch from artists like Common, YP, BJ The Chicago Kid, The Cool Kids, No I.D., Pugs Atomz, Kids These Days, The Primeridian, Psalm One, + More.

Common recently linked with Rebook to speak on the recording of one of his many classic LP’s, 2005’s Be. Giving the specific details on how he and Kanye worked together on the LP, and delving out details around how “The Corner” beat was made. Do not miss this clip from Com Sense. Com goes in depth about the team that converged during the recording process, and also comments on his last times working with his then room mate J Dilla. The Dreamer, The Believer coming this November.

In other Common related news, No I.D. was named the VP of Def Jam, something that is definitely a good look in just about any way you look at it. The Chicago native will no doubt have a say in most Def Jam releases from this point forth, and with that immediately comes a much higher level of integrity for their music.

As we near the September 13th the release date for YP‘s No Sleep follow-up Still Awake, YP has been on the road getting fans ready for his new project. He recently shot down to Indianapolis and Detroit with Raekwon on a mini-tour sponsored by Rock The Bells.  YP’s mixtape is proceeded by the single “Who I Be” and consists of other bangers like “The Come Up”, and “Boatload”. He’s shot a few videos with Elephilms, so look out for those.

Kids These Days had a very successful summer, and after their Lollapalooza set they will see their careers continue to grow. That started with them taking over the Mag Mile last week performing a slew of songs and sitting down with FM News 101.1 for an in-depth interview. The team spoke on their quick rise, creative process and also touched on what plans they have in the near future including Traphouse Rock their debut LP.

Sir Michael Rocks recently announced he has finished Premier Politics Vol 1 & 2 , and he is currently working on wrapping Rocks & Blocks the collaboration project he has in the works with Boldy James. Yes.

New Music & Videos

Linking with Ohio’s Fly Union, BJ The Chicago Kid drops the latest track off of his forthcoming LP The Life Of Love’s Cupid titled “Heartless”. This track is as smooth as ever and full of emotion, a characteristic trait of BJ’s music. Drums on the track definitely hit heavy and reminds me of classic 2004 Yeezy production.

The Cool Kids have dropped the video for “Summer Jam” Feat. Maxine Ashley. As the duo head to a rockin’ pool party, you can reminisce over this past summer or maybe get inspired to enjoy what’s left of it, but make sure you don’t miss this video, a true classic.

Also this week we released the visuals for Lungz “The Statement” off his Don Cannon hosted Dream Killaz, which drops  September 13th via RubyHornet, Fakeshoredrive, The Bassment, and LDRS1354.  It features Joe Budden, Sir Michael Rocks, and Fred The Godson.

With all hype on new Chicago bands directed towards Kids These Days (rightfully so), you may overlook some of the other bands on the rise, one of them being The O’My’s. Working close with members of the Chicago Hip-Hop scene like producers The Blended Babies, the group also helped with production on Boldy James’ “Hubcaps (Holdin’ On)” and backed The Cool Kids at Lollapalooza. This week they brought us, Simply Beautiful“, a very dope Al Green cover. The band’s talents are apparent after listening to any of the three tracks and with more material coming from them and The Cool Kids soon, their stock is on the rise.

As promised Nacrobat Pugs Atomz released his free LP titled Enjoy, featuring appearances and production from Naledge, BrandUn DeShay, Grant Parks, The Gent$, SBTRKT, + more. Definitely a sure download from a legend in the underground Chicago scene. The Primeridian also dropped a new joint “Whistle While You Work”, off their collaboration project with producer Tall Black Guy. The full project Darling Lure will be dropping Sept. 13th on All Natural Inc.  The song is a vivid tale of maintaining and being stress free while on your respectful “grinds”.

Astonish is gearing for the release of his next LP The Astonishingly ODD Project in October.  He set the table for the new project this week by dropping a new video for “All I Need”, produced by CRZ.  The production is breezy, and Astonish flows fluidly, hitting the pocket perfectly. Definitely waiting to hear the rest of this project.

theWHOevers shot me a over a joint they have with Show You Suck titled “All True Everything” that is sounding very crisp, yet Show’s “All Chill” version still does it for me. Psalm One is back with some visuals for her song feat. Del The Funky Homosapien “Tits & Guacamole” off her latest Get It In The Van Vol. 3.
