After a strong week features the release of two gigantic mixtapes from YP & Lungz, this week followed in a respectable fashion, definitely with it’s own gems laced throughout the days including, the “Natural High” video we dropped in conjunction with KarmaloopTV . This week we have new music and news from artists like Million $ Mano, Hollywood Holt, Mic Terror, GLC, Common, YP, Sir Michael Rocks, Kidz In The Hall, 2008ightes Crew, Freddie Gibbs, Lupe Fiasco, Psalm One, Second City Citizens, branDun DeShay, Gzus Piece + more.

We start early in the week, where the good people at WeAreChange.Org found Lupe Fiasco among the crowd of protestors on Wall St. in NYC. They spoke to Lu mainly about the 9/11 conspiracy and Government transparency. Definitely an interesting interview, where Lupe delves into more of his view points which cement his his sometimes not so popular beliefs. Don’t forget Lupe + company dropped the exclusive 5-year anniversary edition of Food & Liquor which features 4 new tracks + 2 new videos.

MTV recently caught up with Gangsta Gibbs at Rock The Bells NYC and got some more great Gibbs soundbites, when asking him about food allergies, grocery stores and gangs. Cold Day In Hell coming sooner than you think as well as DJ Roc’s x Str8 Slammin’s – Big Bizness mixtape dropping next week.

Common has been running around the country lately promoting his new book, One Day It All Makes Sense and recently stopped through by Windy City Live to speak on his book as well as upcoming movie roles for the Rapper/Actor. While this book promotional tour is definitely a plus for the MC, am I selfish to say I just want to hear about the Album? Hopefully more info on The Dreamer, The Believer will come out soon. And as I get ready to publish, Fakeshordrive comes through with this very dope interview with Common, talking about his new album, working with Nas in the future, his new book, and growing up in Chicago.

Fresh off the release of his most promising project thus far, YP sat down with DJ Green Lantern in Chicago to play the lead single “Who I Be” off his Still Awake project. Fellow Southside MC’s L.E.P Bogus Boys recently got a feature in the Chicago Tribune, focusing heavily on the beginnings of the crew and the harsh facts about the grimy duo. Most definitely a good read for new listeners, who also need to beware as Now Or Neva is set to drop on Halloween.

Kids These Days have continued their strong run over that past couple months, as they performed at the Apple Store in Lincoln Park last week, where Simple Society TV was on hand to recap the event. Lookout for their next project Traphouse Rock which is in the works.

New Music & Videos

On Wednesday we at Ruby Hornet x Closed Sessions linked up Karmaloop TV to bring the visuals for the track “Natural High” to the people. The goofy video is a true look at a specific crew of like-minded artists within the thriving local scene . Try and nab all the cameos, RTC, Rockie Fresh, BBU, Jason Davis I see you…

Kidz In The Hall have a new LP dropping in November, and are leading up to it with new music, and new visuals.  The drops started this week as they gave us a new video for “Playground” featuring BJ The Chicago Kid that was shot out in Denver by Jason Ngo.  In addition to the new video, the Kidz In The Hall have a new 3-song EP, Pre Game: A Prelude To Occasion.

Here with his second drop from his debut LP Premier Politics Volulme 1, which drops next Friday for free99, is Sir Michael Rocks with “I Can’t Go”. Tackling another smooth offering from his 2nd most frequent producer Tye Hill, Mikey shows exactly why he is ready to make a large impact this fall. Mikey just dropped the cover art + feature for the project you can here. Look for more from Mikey & RH coming soon.

McKenzie Eddy’s Young Platinum album has been on repeat for me for the last few weeks. And this week she hit us with visuals for “What A Life” is a standout track featuring GLC and Da$h.  The BluRoc camp is on fire right now, and that will not stop anytime soon.

Without missing a step the L.E.P Bogus Boys dropped more cinematic visuals this week, this time for the summer classic “Gangstaz Only” Feat. Mobb Deep. Salute real g’s… Now Or Neva – 10/31/11.

We did our very first Closed Session with DJ Babu nearly 2 years ago. While we released the record “Bionic Jaws”, and the accompanying documentary, there was a second record that Babu made with MC ADaD that kind of got lost in the shuffle.  So, with ADaD’s PS…I’m Next about to drop, our “Natural High” release party coming up with DJ Babu, and a pretty much done new Closed Sessions album featuring Raekwon, CyHi The Prynce, L.E.P., Blu, and more, it’s a great time to put out “Stay On Your Square”.

We also got new music from the homies at the 2008ighties crew. First, Fonz-E Mak aka “The Black Gilligan” breaks down the art of hitchhiking over an MF Doom beat. He also has a video for “Hitchhiker’s Guide :)”, which we’ll have soon. Next, Julian Malone gives us his new track, “The Glory”, which is Julian over the Kid Cudi instrumental of the same name. The song will appear on his new mixtape, Rebel Rollin’ 2, which is scheduled to be released October 16th. Finally, the newcomer Johnny St. Clouds hit us with his first offering , “The Name is Johnny”, tackling the newly released “Trouble On My Mind” from Pusha T & Tyler The Creator.

The Treated Crew representative Gzus Piece dropped off his new EP, Malt Liquor Vol. 2, which is presented by Jugrnaut as part of their Yes Please! series.  The EP features 6 new tracks from Pastor Gzus, and also comes with a nice video interview. Watch and download. brandUn DeShay hit us with the new single for his upcoming LP All Day DeShay coming next Friday. “1up” is produced by legendary DJ Battlecat who is also Snoop Dogg’s DJ.

Pslam One delivers a harsh message to small potatoes in her latest video, “Pommes Frites”. The song is off Pslam’s latest release, Get In The Van 3.  You can download the full project, and it will hold you over until her new album, coming on Rhymesayers. The Second City Citizens return with a new mixtape, SpliffNotes Volume 1. The mixtape is 14 tracks deeps of new music from one Chicago’s up and coming indie crews.  Download and listen to it here.
