GLC

In the second week of Local Sounds (a weekly roundup of news and highlights on windy city music) We have news, tidbits, visuals, and mp3’s from Mathien, GLC, YP, Kids These Days, Sir Michael Rocks, MC ADaD, GLC, Freddie Gibbs, Their Ocean, Thelonious Martin + More.

News and Notes From The Windy City….

GLC is set to have a huge month ahead of him, from being featured on Kendrick Lamar’s #Section80, filming a video with BBU for their upcoming mixtape, performing with Ski Beatz + the DD172 Fam at Camp Bisco next weekend and readying a headlining concert with Kidz In The Hall at Reggie’s July 21st, America’s month belongs to the Ism this year.

Last night via twitter Sir Michael Rocks asked fans who they would like to see him do a mixtape with. A couple minuntes later he tweeted to Boldy James, hinting at a collaboration project titled Rocks & Blocks. Also mentioning getting production from The Alchemist the possibility of this tape is mouth watering, as there is nothing more exciting than two of the midwest’s rising stars teaming up for a project sure to be dope.

Longtime Chi-town spitter MC Adad will be linking up with the local indie/soul duo Their Ocean for an upcoming music video shot in a motel, involving death and revival. Sounds freaky, and judging by Their Ocean’s calming spooky rhythms exhibited on their recent Still Waters EP this project is sure to not letdown.

Aside from dropping a new track produced by Tye Hill, Walter J. Liveharder will be at Subterrenean Saturday night celebrating the release of his new website & the night will feature performances from Mic Terror, Scheme & The Second City Citzens as we’ll as DJ’s Mattboywhite & our own RTC. To stay on topic, Scheme is working on a new LP with DJ RTC, as he continues grinding, performing vigorously and creating dope visuals such as he and DJ Scends’ “Two Turntables & A Mic” Series. Also, peep the Molemen/SRNC affiliate Esohel’s new visuals for “Bleed” for a truly cinematic experience.

Finally, don’t forget we will be bringing Fool’s Gold signee & Detroit’s newest star Danny Brown to town 7/7 for our latest Digital Freshness event.

New Music & Videos…

The long awaited EP from local band & undoubtedly one of Chicago’s crew to blow, Kids These Days dropped Tuesday on iTunes, as they prepare for their first festival appearance at Lollapalooza later this summer.  Freddie Gibbs, aside from holding possibly the most honest interview ever, released visuals for “Keep It Warm For Ya” Feat. Smoke DZA & Chace Infinate off, Lord Giveth, Lord Taketh Away.

Our homie Mathien dropped the title track to his upcoming LP The Night I was an Alpha Male. The song is a journey from conception to actualization with a sound that marries the best of 60’s pop/rock with future sensibilities. Mathien’s release party for the album will be held July 8th, at the House of Blues. Be on the lookout for much more from Mathien as he and Sulaiman have linked for a collaborative full length project. More info coming soon. Beverly native, Thelonious Martin released his 7th project of the last year on Tuesday, titled [Super] – be on the lookout for more from Thelonious on RH soon.

We also got a much needed dosage from duffmaster YP, as he gave us his take on “I’m On One” which finally gives me a good reason to listen to Drake’s voice. Keeping it loud, rising star Rockie Fresh coming off Metromix’s Hottest Artists Under 25 award hit us with a new track titled “Sour”

Another hot week in the forever growing scene here in Chicago has commenced, but next week we can only guess what good news & music will drop after this holiday weekend, and if you’d like to contribute something to Local Sounds, just hit us up on Twitter, Facebook, or send an email to RubyHornet@gmail.com .
