Lupe Fiasco samples Jimi Hendrix and vocal effects, not auto-tune, distortion is the drug of choice for Lu. Supposedly this is a response to Lu being off the Hottest Emcees list from MTV. It’s like he’s saying, “I’m so hot, you’d want to just stand next to me to catch my glow..” Get it? I thought about putting Lupe Fiasco in the hottest emcees list, but then rethought. The logic being that to me, the hottest emcees are those that go the longest distance in the shortest amount of time. Has Lupe elevated from where he was in 2008? He’s near the top no doubt, but not that much ground was made, not more than someone like Drake who went from being the unknown feature on a Mickey Factz track to f**king Drake…Anyway, more of my thoughts on the Hottest Emcee list are forthcoming.
