Over this past weekend PROJECT Show New York designed a temporary marketplace within the main corridor of 82 Mercer Street in NYC. Using the space for the MADE By PROJECT event, 11 labels were selected for their exceptional artistry demonstrate their respective creative processes, while also selling their made-on-site items. One artist profiled is Gabriel Urist a jewelry maker, who focused on his peach pit ring paying homage to the greatest sport ever and its creator Dr. James Naismith. Credited with inventing the game of basketball in 1891 by attaching an peach basket to a pole, Urist’s work commemorates such innovation as well as a family custom that is fast disappearing.
