Malik Yusef

It seems that Malik Yusef’s G.O.O.D. Morning, G.O.O.D. Night may bring on mo’ money and mo’ problems for the Chicago based spoken word artist.  I got an email from Mr. Inkondapaper entitled “Malik Yusef and Kanye West Mess Up Big Time With New Album”.  The email states that Yusef never cleared any samples, or appearances, and recieved cease and desist letters from Universal Records as well as reps for KRS ONE, Common, Michelle Williams, and Jennifer Hudson.  It also states that Universal told Yusef’s people that Kanye West’s name could not appear anywhere on the record, including in the title of the songs and the album itself.  I’m still trying to figure out what is true, and what isn’t.  Check out the full email below.

“Malik Yusef who planned on releasing his new album Kanye West & Malik Yusef Present: Good Morning & Goodnight was derailed because his label neglected to obtain proper clearance rights from labels and artists. Universal Records quickly put a halt to the release, declaring that Kanye’s name could not be used in the title and the few songs recorded with Mr. West not be placed on the album. More then that label reps for Jennifer Hudson, Michelle Williams, KRS One, Common and others were furious when they found out clearance had not been sought for the songs that their artists had made guest cameos on. Additionally the track “Chicago” stolen from a local producer Hassan was never credited and the two will be appearing in court next month. Cease & Desist Orders piled up but ignoring these issues Good Music went ahead and released the album to minimal sales. Currently the RIAA and Record Labels are pursuing Good Music for any and all royalties collected. Malik Yusef who recently signed a major publishing deal with Universal has many disgruntled employees who have not been paid for their hard work, but he has been seen in the clubs of Chicago with wads of cash buying drinks for everyone and spending lavishly.”
