Much like Friday Night Lights, the rumors of an Arrested Development film have been swirling since the series was initially canceled in 2006. While show creator Mitch Hurwitz still has plans to shoot a film spin-off before they begin production on the show’s fifth season, it seems the film is still quite some time away as he’s been tapped to make his directorial debut on a non-Arrested Development project.

Currently titled Guinea Pigging and co-written by Reno 911! stars/writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, the film is about people who volunteer as test subjects for pharmaceutical companies, medical schools, and hospitals” and one particular person who is plagued with flashbacks and weird side effects. Given Lennon and Garant’s brand of humor (ranging from the aforementioned Reno 911! to their latest, Hell Baby), Hurwitz’ irreverent style fits the duo’s perfectly.

There’s no other information on the film, but production should begin over the next few months. It’s great to see Hurwitz make the move to films, despite at the cost of more Arrested Development. Considering how imbalanced Season 4 was, a break just might be what Hurwitz needs.
