I’ve searched all over the internet for a copy of the Michael Rappaport directed documentary on A Tribe Called Quest. While it got rave reviews at Sundance, and has the curiosity of millions, Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad have all spoke against the film. While Tip has posted his feelings on Twitter, he had yet to formally speak on the situation until this interview with MTV and Sway. In the interview, Tip, Ali Shaheed, and Jarobi reveal the early stages of the doc, being introduced to the idea by Nas, and ultimately their problems with what has gone on since the film’s completion. Tip says in the interview that Tribe had some hesitation about bringing Rappaort into their inner-circle, and the crew was not happy with the finished product.
My question is, will this make ATCQ fans boycott the film, or want to watch it even more? My anticipation to see the movie has only grown with the controversy. We’ll see if the film gets a clear release date.
