Nico Segal: Illasoul

Earlier this week we released a little trailer video for Nico Segal’s forthcoming solo debut, Illasoul: Shades of Blue.  That trailer featured Nico’s song, “Struggles”, well it featured his verse from the record. What you didn’t hear was the song’s second verse from Chicago legend, Coldhard of Crucial Conflict.  Coldhard jumped on the record at the invitation of Michael Kolar of SoundScape studio.  According to Nico, Coldhard went into the bathroom, and emerged as his alter ego, Pimp Pearly White.

As Nico told us during our First Look interview, “Kolar was like, ‘man, I think this track calls for PPW.’  And Coldhard was like, ‘ahhh, PPW.’ He went to the bathroom and he came out as his alter ego, Pimp Pearly White, and right then and there laid the verse you hear on “Struggles”.  He did that verse, and we were all in the control room freaking out, going nuts. It was a freestyle verse. I couldn’t even believe it. Then he was like, should I do another one? I was like, ‘if you want to.  I’m keeping that one though.’  He did like 6 of them and I could’ve chose any of them, they were all amazing. But I had to keep that first one.”

Listen and download “Struggles” below.  Nico’s full album will be available for free download on Monday, March 26th via RubyHornet.
