Dos Equis by Kaws

Kaws x Dos Equis

Looks like that gallery show in CT last month is paying dividends for Kaws as he ropes in another corporate gig, this time with fine beer purveyor Dos Equis. This special project features two color ways of Kaws-designed beer bottles. These bottles literally feature 'dos equis', prominently displaying Kaws' signature dueling x's all over the bottle. The green/red color way is for Dos Equis Lager, and the brown/red color way is for the Amber. Word is that these may only be a Mexican exclusive, but it doesn't seem like that should be the case. Regardless, look for these to drop next month, let's hope they get a stateside release as well.

Thom Yorke: "Give Up The Ghost" Live at The Big Chill

Thom Yorke

Thom Yorke took the stage at England's Big Chill Music Festival on Saturday (other acts included M.I.A.) and performed a new Radio Head song, "Give Up The Ghost".  Using his hand as the percussion section, Yorke gave a great performance, which also saw him record and loop his own voice on stage.  See the video below.

M.I.A.: "I'm Illy" Video

M.I.A.

"I'm in tight jeans, and I also know Billie Jean."

If the above quote does not represent being "Illy" then I don't know what does.  Dropping her second video in less than 24 hours, M.I.A. takes to the open road for "I'm Illy".  Anyone who has her new album I think can agree that this pretty much looks how listening to her album sounds.  It's definitely a shaky trip.  See the video below.

50 Cent Ambushes Shyne Conference Call

50 Cent and paris hilton

Yesterday XXL and Gangland hosted a conference call for Shyne.  I decided not to participate cause I had a slew of meetings and stuff to get through, and just thought it would be an overall train wreck.  I guess I was partly right in my hunch, it was indeed a train wreck, but a very funny and eventful one.  In a case of, "I'm bored and can do whatever I want", 50 Cent got his Adam Corrolla on and prank called Shyne pretending to be a radio host that "comes on right after Tim Westwood."  Without a Radio One program guide in hand, they put 50 Cent through where he asked Shyne about his beef with 50 Cent and then berated him while Shyne looked dazed and confused.  See the video below.

Closed Sessions: DJ Babu Edition

DJ Babu

"We ended up with a beat that... probably a lot of people wouldn't even expect that I would have done."

We're proud to present the latest in our Closed Sessions documentary series featuring none other than DJ Babu of Dilated Peoples and The Beat Junkies. Flipping the script, DJ Babu made the producer the focus of this Closed Session and rather than an emcee going through the Closed Sessions production catalog, it was Babu who paged through our Rolodex of talented Chicago artists for which to collaborate.  DJ Babu centered on up and comer ADaD as well as veterans GLC and Rhymefest.  In a marathon session that stretched over 12 hours, two studios, and served as the last Closed Session at the old SoundScape Studios (RIP 2010 S. Wabash), DJ Babu, GLC, and Rhymefest created a soon to be classic, "Bionic Jaws".  With a heavy bass, and biting chorus, "Bionic Jaws" is the ultimate answer to those that just can't stop running their mouth and also represents the coming together of storied veterans of both the Chicago and L.A. Hip Hop scenes.

The documentary below tells the story of "Bionic Jaws", and what happened during the Closed Session with DJ Babu.  The full song will be available for free download on August 16th via RubyHornet.com and Closed Sessions.com.
