Drake Brings Out Em and Others At OVOFest

Drake

While Jon Bon Jovi, a marathon, and pre-Lollapalooza construction made traffic in the Loop a mess this weekend, Toronto had their own busy two days with OVOFest.  Toronto's favorite son, Joe Carter Drake, headlined the festival and brought out a few of his famous friends for his set, including Eminem.  Check out the video below where Eminem surprises the crowd during "Forever"

Also hit the jump to see Jay-Z perform "Run This Town" during Drake's set.

Trouble Andrew: "I'm Wasted" Video

Trouble Andrew

Something new from Trouble Andrew, who seems to enjoy making music more than almost anyone I know.  "I'm Wasted" features a rowdy party, guest raps/shouts from Lil' Jon and Mr. Move, as well as some smooth cameos.  I think I saw our dudes Ninjasonik in the mix.  The video was directed by ICU and is off Andrew's Trouble Gang mixtape.

K. Flay: "2 Weak"

K. Flay

I found K. Flay's Mashed Potatoes CD while I was packing up my apartment to move over the weekend.  When I got the RCRDLBL newsletter I thought, 'hmmm, that name sounds familiar".  K. Flay's "2 Weak" is of the summertime-pop variety, showcasing this Stanford graduate's more fun, yet also reflective side.  You can give it a spin free of charge via RCRDLBL.

Drake: "I'm Ready For You"

Drake

"RIP to the girl you used to see."

Sampling "Heartbeat" from Nneka, "I'm Ready For You", tells the story of a woman finally ready for a new guy to be her guy.  Drake lays the reference for a female singer to take over, or maybe he'll do what Arlo Guthrie, Paul Barman, and others have done when sing from the perspective of the opposite gender.  That Nneka sample is sick as hell.  The tags for "DJ Alex" are pretty whack though.  I mean, that's a pretty whack DJ name to me, and my first name is Alexander so I'm not hating on the name itself, just the DJ name.  Screams weddings and proms... just saying...

Patrice: "Ain't Got No (I Got Life)"

Patrice

Now this is a video that Kanye West would love...  World traveler Patrice turned to his friend and artist JR for the inspiration this new video, "I Ain't Got (I Got Life)".  The song is a pretty large checklist of everything missing in the protagonist's life, including shoes, socks, shirts, and jumping to conclusions, service as well.  Think Sublime's "What I Got" expect this dude doesn't even have a dalmatian, and may or may not be able to "still get high".  What does he have?  He has his hair, his brain, and his smile, and when the music is as soothing as the summery rhythm present in "Ain't Got...", well, you got a lot.  The song is available in France right here.  Patrice forthcoming album, ONE, is available September 10th overseas.  Check out the video below.

J. Cole: 102 Jamz Freestyle x Biggest Misconception

J. Cole

J. Cole drops a freestyle while visiting 102 Jamz.. My favorite line: "My flow's Neiman Marcus, you're so flea market..."  J. Cole will be hitting Chicago on Friday for an appearance at Lollapalooza.  If you can't catch him at the Perry stage, or even if you can and want a more intimate show, then hit up the RH x YM! x Knuckle Rumbler x Blind I after party featuring J. Cole, Vonnegutt, Free Sol, Sulaiman and RTC at Bottom Lounge on Friday night.  More info and tickets here.

Also after the jump is a clip in which J. Cole is asked to name the biggest misconception regarding himself and his music.  While you may expect him to say something about Jay-Z, Roc Nation etc... J responds that he feels people characterize him as a "backpack rapper", which he says in cool "cause I do represent the backpack kids", to see the but, hit the jump.
