“I know where the percentages are,” Pharoahe told us on a warm afternoon in Austin, Texas just a few days before the release of his third solo album entitled W.A.R. (We Are Renegades). “I’m not disillusioned or naive about the music industry. I know where record sales are for artists that are more well-known than myself… What I’m interested in looking at is, how many people hear this record and are interested in telling their friend, ‘yo, I’m going to lend you my copy, or you can copy the record from me, I just want you to hear these 3 songs and tell me what you think.’ I think that’s what’s important in terms of people coming out to support orinspiring someone to do the s**t beyond me. It’s way more important than what I achieve from it in the immediate monetary success.”
