This weekend I hit Minneapolis, Minnesota for the 5th annual SoundSet music festival thrown by Rhymesayers. The festival featured more than 20,000 fans, a live graffiti wall, DJ set stage, a car show, and performances from the likes of Action Bronson, P.O.S., Danny Brown, Kid Cut Up, Chuuwee, Aesop Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T., DJ Premier, J-Zone, Evidence, Macklemore, Raekwon and Ghostface, Lupe Fiasco, and a crazy tornado warning that ended things early and sent everyone running for cover. Thanks to J-Zone, I ended up in a van with him and Danny Brown, and arrived safely back at the hotel. The tornado warning ended up not being as serious as I imagined, but I’m from Chicago and we don’t have tornadoes. So, when Brother Ali said, ‘this is not a game.’ I took that seriously and got the hell out of there.
Before that craziness though, I was able to snap some pics with my iphone, check out select cuts below. Also look for interviews with Macklemore, Action Bronson, and Evidence coming soon. This was a really great festival and vibe created by the rhymesayers camp. They treated everyone like family, and really took care of me as well. I got to say what’s up to so many people, and got so much love. I can’t wait til Soundset 2013.
