Black dynamite

“But Black Dynamite…I sell drugs in the community,” whimpers Black Giddyup, a pimp down on his luck and his, uh, “workers”.   Superhero, rogue cop, Kung Fu master, and a real wizard of poetry, Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White) has no sympathy.  He’s on a mission after his brother’s murder, a crippling rise of drugs in the local orphanage, and an uncovered plot to release a dick-shrinking malt liquor that can be traced all the way back to the White House, yes indeed, definitely some jive turkeys.  “Black Dynamite” is a satire of Blaxploitation films and stars a hilarious cast made up of people you’ll remember from other things including Tommy Davidson as Creamed Corn, Arsenio Hall as Tasty Freeze, and Cedric Yarbrough as the aforementioned Black Giddyup.

The action starts when Black Dynamite’s brother is murdered by druglords.  What Dynamite thinks is a case of his brother falling back in with the wrong crowd turns out to be much deeper, as he uncovers that his brother was setup by the police, and it only gets deeper from there.  Complete with “swooshing noises” with every movement, a scene with a visible boom mic, poetry in motion, and of course, afro’s galore, “Black Dynamite” is great film to check out, especially during a Wednesday afternoon at an advance screening (just saying).

The film was written and directed by Scott Sanders, who is also known as LA’s DJ Suckapunch.  The film is in proper theaters on October 16th.  For more info check out the official website.
