WATCH “INTERMISSION” AFTER THE INTERVIEW

RubyHornet: When did you record this song, why is it so important to your debut LP Kid With Raps?

Calez:  Just checked my email when I sent this song to Flosstradamus, I recorded this on Oct. 20th when Julian dropped a song enitled the same date, haha crazy. But that’s what we do we inspire each other and shit.  I most likely heard his joint and wanted to work on something and searched through the Flosstradamus beats they sent me.  I heard the instrumental and got to work. I wrote and recorded, then sent them the track that night. And man this song is an “Intermission” for the album to basically bring you back to the “I want my fucking shine type shit, and I can rap my ass off, don’t forget haha.

RubyHornet: You directed + edited the video, can you speak on being in creative control throughout seemingly your entire musical situation in general and for “Intermission” (expect production here).

Calez:  Yes I did, nothing was ever given to me.  It seems like God wants me to do things by myself. I’m convinced in most situations I try to let someone do something, far as make beats for my album, or shoot a video for me, it doesn’t quite come out the way I want it to come out. I’m never satisfied unless we are in sync, like me and them 2008ighties dudes… we think alike. And also, I hate depending on people.  I’d rather do things independently cause nothing’s given so I take it upon myself to do all my shit, and it comes out really damn good,  I’m content with having my career in my own hands. Oh, and the “Intermission” video was a thought and it came out good for me. I found a crib to shoot it at, shout out Danni Alston from Young Wonder for her crib (which she moved in the day before the shoot), her lens, and mattress. Also shout to Chelz for letting me borrow her Macbook to edit the video haha.  Alot of kids from the burbs and city came ALL THE WAY up north to support the shoot, and some people helped out too. It’s just awesome to get good work done.

RubyHornet: Where will you see the song in 3 years?  Is this your first time working with Flosstradamus?

Calez:  I’m not God, but I would like to see this song as a classic collectable and even like the shit I was saying on here far as me making the XXL, I want that to come to pass. Not even just that magazine, it’s more that I didn’t mention that I want to make by 3 years too. God willing this song and video will move and make shit crack. If not, fuck it, we know it’s good haha.

Yes man Josh and Kurt are the homies man, s/o Fool’s Gold too, but they sent me like 5 beats when they saw “Middle Finger”, and I was kind of skeptical on using them at first cause they weren’t really the style I was looking for far as “Kid With Raps”. But man, on Oct. 20th when I wrote the first verse to this shit I’m like, ‘man this has to go on my album some way.’ And I made it work. They also booked me for a show and performing that shit was awesome too. Josh was on the tables for us even before their own set out of love. Them the homies.  Look out for more of Calez and Floss collabs too.
