Typical Cats is one of my favorite groups of all-time. I discovered them in ’99 or ’00 during a regular trip to Dr. Wax. Thaione Davis put the album in my hand, and I haven’t looked back. The crew, made up of Qwel, Denizen Kane, Qwazaar, and DJ Natural, met through WHPK and have been seen somewhat as a Chicago version of Black Star. Their debut orange-covered LP is a classic, and their sophomore set, Civil Service was a dope follow-up. This fall they return with their new album, 3. The LP drops September 25th via Galapagos4, with a release party September 21st at Bottom Lounge (get tickets).
