Closed Session with Tanya Morgan

Tanya Morgan came to Chicago in September while on tour in support of their latest LP, Brooklynatti. Our Closed Sessions started early on the day of their show, with the trio getting to SoundScape some time around noon.  I didn’t know it before securing the session, but Tanya Morgan rarely records together.  In fact, the critically acclaimed Brooklynatti only contains one song that was made in that fashion.  I’m not quite sure if the guys were nervous at all about the final product, but I think after they heard Tony Baines’ beats, a lot of anxiety soon vanished.  I remember going through the beats, and several stuck out, before all three members shared the name head nod and they made their decision.  From there it wasn’t long before they were all writing, and without communication, all being drawn to the same theme of accomplishment and reflection.  Von P, Don Will, and Illyas each took their own approach, and in between a lunch break of Harold’s Chicken and fish from Luciano’s we ended up with “Posted”.  Get an in-depth look at the making of the song, and the meaning behind it in the video below.
