Rhymefest

I stopped by Soiree last night for the Lyricist Fix.  The event feature a party/performances by Chicago Hip Hoppers The Rocketeers, Love Jones, Slot A, Dave Coresh, and others.  Rhymefest was the host and shortly after The Rocketeers and slightly before asking the DJ to play more Gangstarr, Fest announced his split with J Records and that his long awaited El Che will be dropping independently in October.  Fest said he still has a good relationship with the label, but that he’s recorded close to 100 songs that haven’t been put out causing frustration and a lapse in judgment into the world of auto-tune.  According to Fest, the label heads loved his venture into T-Pain land and wanted to put one out as a single, but Fest couldn’t let that happen and asked to part ways.  Anyway, the long and short of it is that his record with Greg Nice is too Nice, Fest will be releasing new music on his own, and will also be headling my set at Do Division Fest.  Don’t miss it.
