Last week I was introduced to Chicago emcee, Roy French. Yesterday he sent over this new cut for an RH premiere. “Astonishing” is off French’s forthcoming debut, Amazing. It’s more than just a title says French, but a philosophy. “The Amazing movement encourages people that ever had low self-esteem or [felt] weak about themselves to feel AMAZING about themselves with everything they do to feel mentally strong. I once felt low and it wasn’t working for me until I change my way of thinking,” he said.
French was born in Chicago, but raised in New York and New Jersey until returning to the Chi at the age of 15. He became inspired to try music after hearing the sounds of Lil’ Wayne, Max B, and A Tribe Called Quest, and all of those influences show up somewhere on this new track. Listen below.
