Over the last few years NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series has built itself into something special. Much like MTV’s infamous Unplugged series, Tiny Desk brings the best out of the acts that come through. Saba’s performance which just came out today is an extension of Tiny Desk’s streak of exceptional performances. The 24 year old emcee from Chicago’s west side played tracks off of his most recent album Care For Me, a thought-provoking and tragic project that deals with the death of his cousin John Walt, with the people who helped him record it. He also had his dad – who he talks about on the album – singing backup vocals with him.
In the 15 minute video he performs “Busy/Sirens”, “Logout” and “Heaven All Around Me/Life” check it out below.
But that isn’t the only reason that today is big for Saba. He teamed up with Vinyl Me Please to issue Care For Me on vinyl which is available here.
