[Video] Thievery Corporation: "Depth Of My Soul"

Just as I was getting ready for last night's show in Austin, Thievery Corporation released a video for their new single "Depth of My Soul" with guest vocalist Shana Halligan off of their new album Saudade. The new video shows Shana traveling by horseback as she passes by old lovers and remembering the relationships. The cinematic look of the video gives the perfect visual to the theatrical sound of the song. Saudade has been on repeat since it dropped earlier this month. Starting my days with a cup of coffee, emails, and Saudade has been my ritual for the month of April. The Washington DC duo made up of Rob Garza & Eric Hilton have done a great job of putting together an album where you can hit play and let it ride. The album transports you to a different time and/or place where only happiness resides (at least for me it does). Interestingly, the album is named after the Portuguese word "saudade," but does not have a direct English translation.

Saudade was once described as "the love that remains" after someone is gone. Saudade is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. - Wikipedia

Make sure to buy Saudade via iTunes and catch them on tour (dates below). Expect some photos from Thievery Corporation's Stubb's show soon.

[Video] ShowYouSuck: "All Wavy Everything"

I've known ShowYouSuck for awhile now, yet whenever I feel like I have a grasp on what he's going to do next, he drops something like the music video for "All Wavy Everything." Serving as the third song from the Dude Bro EP to receive the music video treatment, "All Wavy Everything" (directed by Aaron Perkins, Jr./APJ Films) is a throwback to worn-out VHS tapes, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, and an obsession with all green screen everything. Any fan of ShowYouSuck will also recognize the video's intro as a reference to Jim Henson and Frank Oz's Dark Crystal that Show has been more than happy to spread out across social media.

The "All Wavy Everything" video not only represents ShowYouSuck's heavy pop culture influences, but also an appeal to the [adult swim] crowd (with the aforementioned Tim and Eric feel, plus poorly-made polygonal characters akin to Xavier: Renegade Angel) that transcends past the typical Chicago hip hop crowd... but you've already come to expect that from the One Man Pizza Party by now, right? With co-production by Mike Jaxx and Peter CottonTale, "All Wavy Everything" is just what Chicagoans will need to get their minds off of this depressing, mid-April weather.

If you crave more to fill your ShowYouSuck fill, you can catch him playing at Reggie's on Friday with Kid Sister, Syd tha Kid, Angel Davanport, and Mr. E. Tickets for that show can be found on the Reggie's website. Be sure to purchase Dude Bro on iTunes and wish the rapper the happiest of birthdays this Sunday!

[Video] Glass Animals: "Gooey"

British four-piece Glass Animals has released a new music video for the smooth and glossy single "Gooey." The track is off of their upcoming EP, Gooey, produced by Paul Epworth and due out in April via The Harvest Imprint.

Strange and intriguing, the video follows individuals who immediately transform into their most unrestricted, strongest, and best selves after they ingest some sort of slimy substance in one way or another. The whirling synth, lo-fi beats, and lurid vocals put you in a dream-like state. Catch a buzz from the new single "Gooey."

[Video] Lake Street Dive: "You Go Down Smooth" Live On KEXP

Lake Street Dive is an exceptionally talented, tight, and groovy foursome that met almost a decade ago as students at New England Conservatory in Boston. The band - Rachel Price (Lead Vocals), Mike Olsen (Guitar/Trumpet), Bridget Kearney (bass), and Mike Calabrese (drums) is killing it in a very major way. Promoting their brand new album Bad SelfPortraits, Lake Street Dive has been all over late night television and has received rave reviews from Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, and pretty much everyone who has laid ears on them.

Check them out live on KEXP performing "You Go Down Smooth," an original off the new record Bad Self Portraits which is out now and available here.

Pennybirdrabbit brings adorable to the next level with her video for "Look For Love," the single from her For Love EP out via OWLSA/Big Beat. The super sweet imagery reflects the loveliness of the LA singer/songwriter's voice, causing you to develop a crush pretty quickly.

Directed by photographer Angelo Kritikos, the music video shows Penny and Young as two lovers goofing off, breaking and entering, and eventually escaping jail, with a vey cops and robbers vibe that's all in fun. Watch the video and listen to For Love in its entirety here.

Phantogram Performing Live

[Video] Phantogram: "Fall In love"

The Phantogram duo has been steadily keeping us supplied with fresh tracks and inspiring visuals over the past few months since releasing their abbreviated, self-titled offering that landed at the end of last year as they ready fans for their first full studios albums since 2011's critically-acclaimed Nightlife. Today, adding to the hype around the expected drop, Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter released their video for the song "Fall In Love" off their latest, set to be titled Voices. The trippy, black and white accents of the video add a layer to the track, appropriately titled as we enter the Valentine's Day vortex this week. If nothing else, the UK duo know how to build anticipation, but alas the three-year long journey that has been Voices will come to an end on February 18 when the project finally finds its way to fans. You can pre-order the album, via iTunes, here. Check out the full video, streaming below.

[Video] Phantogram: "Black Out Days"

Yesterday, Phantogram released their video for "Black Out Days" off their recent, self-titled project via Filter. Directed by Evan Spencer Brace, the video is a vibrant grab bag of images set against a simple black background. Scenes flash from people wrestling in milk, to a falconer, paintings of gold etc. before cutting to Sarah Barthel singing in front of projected images while Josh Carter physically interprets. It's an artistic affair, to be sure, and something that could certainly use a couple views to really soak it all in. The duo has plans to drop Voices, the follow up to this year's release, on February 18 but you can pre-order it now on iTunes. Check out the latest from Phantogram below.

Beyonce Surprises With New Album Release

Well, this kind of turns the whole 'Friday The 13th' thing on its head, huh? Last night, without fanfare or promotion, Beyonce released her fifth full studio album via iTunes. To call it an album is a bit of an understatement. The self-titled project consists of 14 songs released complete with 17 accompanying videos, for something that the First Lady of hip-hop and R&B referred to as a "visual experience."

In a press release, Beyonce described the idea for the new album. "I see music," said Beyoncé. "It's more than just what I hear. When I'm connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they're all connected to the music."

The album is a family affair of sorts, with husband Jay-Z and infant child Blue Ivy making appearances on two tracks. I haven't had a chance to hear "Blue" yet, but I'm sure it's meant to melt many a young girl's heart, queue the "awwws". As she is apt to do, Beyonce handpicked the rest of the features, adding to of the top artists in music today to a project that was already sure to be groundbreaking. Drake stops by for "Mine" and Frank Ocean hops on "Superpower", which should be a treat. Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, The-Dream and Noah “40? Shebib handle the bulk of production duties. Taking a page out of the rest of the music world, Beyonce released the album, complete with videos with simply a posting on her Facebook wall. You can check out some of the videos below and pick up the full album on iTunes.
